WE DIRECT OUR MINDS TO GOD
DECLARING OUR UNITY IN WORSHIP
Adapted from 1 Peter 1:18-21
You know that you were ransomed not with perishable things like silver or gold but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish.
Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
Through Jesus you have come to trust in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your trust and hope are in God.
Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Amen.
PRAYER SEEKING GOD’S PRESENCE
Come Lord Shepherd, lead us to green pastures and still waters. Come Lord Jesus, lead us away from sin to eternal life. Come Spirit, lead us to sacrificial love. Come Father, Son, and Spirit, lead us into worship and truth. Amen.
GOD, WE LOVE YOU

GOD, WE’RE LISTENING
Genesis 22:1-14
read by Paul Shaheen
After these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.” So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and his son Isaac; he cut the wood for the burnt offering and set out and went to the place in the distance that God had shown him. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place far away. Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the boy and I will go over there; we will worship, and then we will come back to you.” Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. And the two of them walked on together. Isaac said to his father Abraham, “Father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God himself will provide the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them walked on together.
When they came to the place that God had shown him, Abraham built an altar there and laid the wood in order. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to kill his son. But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” And Abraham looked up and saw a ram, caught in a thicket by its horns. Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place “The Lord will provide,” as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

GOD HELP US
Prayer
WE CONCLUDE WITH THE LORD’S PRAYER:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
THANKING GOD FOR HIS GOODNESS
We offer God a portion of our money as a way to say we love God, and desire to encourage the ministry & mission of the church.

GOD INVITES US TO GATHER AGAIN
We’ll be back here next Sunday. We hope you can join us.
Information on ravenscov.org.

Sunday School
Sunday School at Ravenswood Covenant began today. It meets every Sunday, starting at 10:00 am. We encourage everyone to bring their children to Sunday School to learn about the Bible so that they can grow in faith and knowledge of God. “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
Faith Forum
Faith Forum, the adult Christian education class that meets during the Sunday School hour (starting at 10:00 am) during the school year, began today. This month’s topic is “Listen to the Prophets Today”. Plan to join us each Sunday as we learn and grow in our faith as a community of believers.
Scripture for next Sunday
Genesis 28:10-17
John 1:43-51
If you enjoy reading scripture out loud, please sign up to read scripture in worship. The sign-up sheet is on the table in the back of the sanctuary, or you can talk with Pastor Ryan or Gregory Sager.
Coffee hour serving committees
With the start of a new school year we are seeking volunteers to serve during coffee hour. Volunteers are divided into committees that rotate coffee-hour responsibilities between the committees on a monthly basis, with members of each committee taking charge of one Sunday coffee hour during each month that her or his committee serves.
If you would like to sign up for a coffee hour serving committee, or if you just want more information before you decide whether or not to sign up, please email Kari Johnson at karinelson88@gmail.com or contact her at 847-772-5016.
Farmers market
Our successful Ravenswood Community Farmers Market season continues! As you are probably aware, the particular role that RECC runs within the market, aside from hosting it in our parking lot, is to provide a space for our community’s children to play and thrive while the adult population shops at the vendor’s tents, dines at tables, or chats while supervising their children. We provide an immense bounce house that is a centerpiece of our identity in the eyes of local children, a science table, an art tent, and a water play area.
The market runs every Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the church parking lot until the middle of October. If you would like to help staff our activities — you are free to volunteer for as little or as much of the farmers market calendar as you see fit — please speak to Bekah Carlson or the church staff.
How you can contribute:
* Pray for the community, the vendors and those from the church who volunteer.
* Purchase the following needs:
– Baby Wipes
– Blue Dawn Dish Soap
– Corn Starch
– Baking Soda
– White Vinegar (1/2 to 1 gallon size)
* Help with set-up and tear-down
* Help facilitate activities for the kids
See Bekah Carlson or the church staff if you’d like to join us to help on Wednesdays.
Covenant Home Altar
Free copies of the fall quarter issue of the Covenant Home Altar, the denominational daily-devotional magazine of the Evangelical Covenant Church, are available in the narthex. Please help yourself to this resource for your prayer life.
Thursday evening Bible study
The weekly Bible study meets Thursdays at 7:00 pm. We are currently studying the Gospel of Luke, to be followed by its sequel, the Acts of the Apostles. The Bible study meets in the upstairs lounge. For more information, please contact Gregory Sager in the church office at (773) 784-7091 or office@ravenscov.org.
We have Zoom available for those who would like to take part in the Bible study but cannot be physically present. The Zoom link is https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83923376849?pwd=YUlYVXBmOVdwV0d5L20ySng3aHU3Zz09 .
