SUMMER IN THE PSALMS:
 “How to Talk with God”

Wisdom

Psalm 1

Oh, the joys of those who do not
    follow the advice of the wicked,

… they delight in the law of the Lord,
    meditating on it day and night.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
    bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
    and they prosper in all they do.

GATHERING MUSIC
“Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise”
led by Cynthia

GOD WELCOMES US
We share Community Life & greet each other.
Kids worship bags are available in the back.

WE DIRECT OUR MINDS TO GOD
DECLARING OUR UNITY IN WORSHIP
God, we rejoice and praise Your holy name.
Because You have kept us from a destructive path.
We give thanks because Your word gives us hope,
And we reflect on Your word at all times.
You are the Source of our faith,
And our spirits are refreshed in Your presence! Amen.

PRAYER SEEKING GOD’S PRESENCE
Lord our God, giver of blessing and judgment, Your Son Jesus lived the only true life. Because of Him we know You, love You, and delight in You. Keep us watered by your grace and rooted in your Spirit so that our ears will hear your voice and our feet will follow your path giving glory to you alone. Amen.

GOD, WE LOVE YOU
* “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise”
hymnal #10

GOD, WE’RE LISTENING
Proverbs 1:20-33
read by Jim Stoel

Wisdom cries out in the street;
    in the squares she raises her voice.
At the busiest corner she cries out;
    at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:
“How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple?
How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing
    and fools hate knowledge?
Give heed to my reproof;
I will pour out my thoughts to you;
    I will make my words known to you.
Because I have called and you refused,
    have stretched out my hand and no one heeded,
and because you have ignored all my counsel
    and would have none of my reproof,
I also will laugh at your calamity;
    I will mock when panic strikes you,
when panic strikes you like a storm
    and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
    when distress and anguish come upon you.
Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer;
    they will seek me diligently but will not find me.
Because they hated knowledge
    and did not choose the fear of the Lord,
would have none of my counsel
    and despised all my reproof,
therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way
    and be sated with their own devices.
For waywardness kills the simple,
    and the complacency of fools destroys them;
but those who listen to me will be secure
    and will live at ease without dread of disaster.”

1 Corinthians 2:6-10
read by Jim Stoel

Yet among the mature we do speak wisdom, though it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are being destroyed. But we speak God’s wisdom, a hidden mystery, which God decreed before the ages for our glory and which none of the rulers of this age understood, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But, as it is written,

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
    nor the human heart conceived,
what God has prepared for those who love Him”—

God has revealed to us through the Spirit, for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.

GOD HELP US
Prayer

WE CONCLUDE WITH THE LORD’S PRAYER:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.  Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.  Amen.

THANKING GOD FOR HIS GOODNESS
We offer God a portion of our money as a way to say we love God, and desire to encourage the ministry & mission of the church.

GOD INVITES US TO GATHER AGAIN
We’ll be back here next Sunday. We hope you can join us. Information on ravenscov.org.

We welcome guest clarinetist Jack Koutatis, who lives in the Ravenswood neighborhood, to our service today. He is Principal Clarinet of the Owensboro Symphony and teaches at the People’s School of Music.

The rose at the front of the church celebrates the birth of Mina Bilge Atakan, daughter of Kader Atakan. We rejoice with Kader and her husband at this gift of new life!

Summer worship schedule
We are now in our summer worship schedule, which means a 10:00 am worship hour. Sunday School and Faith Forum are now on summer hiatus. Sunday worship will return to the 11:00 am hour the Sunday after Labor Day.

Summer Book Club
You are invited to take part in the Summer Book Club, led by Pastor Ryan, which will meet two Thursday evenings in each of the three summer months, at 7:00 pm in the upstairs lounge. The book is The Great De-churching by Jim Davis and Michael Graham. The remaining sessions of the Summer Book Club are July 24, August 7, and August 21. Participants are asked to please read pages 119-163 for the July 24 session.

Scripture for next Sunday
Psalm 51
Daniel 9:3-12
1 John 1:5-9

If you enjoy reading scripture out loud, please sign up to read scripture in worship. The sign-up sheet is on the table in the back of the sanctuary, or you can talk with Pastor Ryan or Gregory Sager.

Farmers market
We had another successful day at the Ravenswood Community Farmers Market this week, as over 900 visitors to the market enjoyed another delight-ful summer day at our market. Ravenswood Covenant, as usual, provided fun at the market for the neighborhood’s children via the church’s playground, the bounce house, the art tent, and the water play area.

The market runs every Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the church parking lot until the middle of October. The church not only hosts the market, it also operates the children’s activities that are a part of the market — and this year we are also going to reinstate our greeting tent on select Wednesdays, so that our neighbors visiting the market can get to know the church that hosts it a little better

How you can contribute:
* Pray for the community, the vendors and those from the church who volunteer.
* Purchase the following needs:
– Baby Wipes
– Blue Dawn Dish Soap
– Corn Starch
– Baking Soda
– White Vinegar (1/2 to 1 gallon size)

* Help with set-up and tear-down
* Help facilitate activities for the kids

See Bekah Carlson or the church staff if you’d like to join us to help on Wednesdays.

Ravenswood Covenant T-shirts
We are going to be handing out the new Ravenswood Covenant t-shirts today. Please have your $10 to purchase the shirt. We request that you join us for a group photo once we’ve all donned our new t-shirts!

Thursday evening Bible study
The weekly Bible study meets Thursdays at 7:00 pm. We are currently studying the Gospel of Luke, to be followed by its sequel, the Acts of the Apostles. The Bible study meets in the upstairs lounge. For more information, please contact Gregory Sager in the church office at (773) 784-7091 or office@ravenscov.org.

The Bible study will not meet this summer on the Thursday evenings in which the Summer Book Club meets.

We have Zoom available for those who would like to take part in the Bible study but cannot be physically present. The Zoom link is https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83923376849?pwd=YUlYVXBmOVdwV0d5L20ySng3aHU3Zz09 .

The burgers, hot dogs, and drinks are provided. Please plan to join us on Cooler Sundays and to bring a side dish or dessert to pass, as we enjoy food and fellowship after the service!
